Report: Linux becoming 'platform of choice' in digital interactive TV -- Linux is showing promising signs of becoming the platform of choice for next generation digital interactive television (ITV) client devices and services, according to a new research report released by Trace strategies Inc. Among the key findings in the report, embedded Linux will comprise 12% of all digital set-top box shipments to North American television operators in 2006, compared to only 5% of set-top box shipments in 2003. G.Mate to add CompactFlash slot to YOPY Linux PDA -- YOPY.AT has announced that G.Mate is developing a new version of its YOPY Linux PDA with a CompactFlash slot. Expected to become available in the beginning of 2003, the new model YP3700 satisfies the requirement for wireless operation of the YOPY Linux PDA. A GSM/GPRS module is also said to be in the works. New Kyocera phone dons Linux-powered 'smart skins' -- Wildseed Ltd. (formerly GiTWIT) and Moviso LLC are collaborating to enhance Wildseed's embedded Linux based 'Smart Skins' for the new Kyocera 'Delta2' phone and several other phones which will be introduced during 2003 in Europe and the Americas. Wildseed's Linux-based software will support handsets using Qualcomm's CDMA 1XRTT, GSM GPRS, and legacy TDMA. Story
Lineo releases latest Embedix SDK -- Version 2.4.1-1 of Embedix SDK is said to represent Lineo's first major step toward transforming the Embedix Tool Suite into a full, open Linux development environment.
