Have it your way -- with Linux, of course -- Sicom Systems announced that they are in the process of installing 160 Linux-based SL-18 point-of-sale (POS) systems in all of the Burger King restaurants in Puerto Rico. Each Burger King installation consists of a network of web-enabled smart terminals running Linux, with each terminal having an embedded Apache webserver, integrated webbrowser, PDF viewer, and report package.  Story

Introducing wxEmbedded -- wxWindows support for small devices -- Robert Roebling has announced the first beta release of wxEmbedded, a new open source graphical windowing environment for small devices. New development platform for ARM9/Linux mobile device development -- Mizi Research introduced an ARM9-powered hardware/software platform for developers of Linux-based mobile devices such as PDAs and smartphones. The platform includes a range of useful functions including a 64-key keyboard, 240x320 pixel touchscreen, and a wide assortment of mobile device I/O.  Story

Free Standards Group launches OpenI18N Certification program -- Less than a year after the initial release of the OpenI18N Standard (formerly Li18nux), the Free Standards Group announced the launch of the OpenI18N Certification program. OpenI18N Certification will utilize an independent authority to verify whether a Linux distribution is adhering to the community and industry developed internationalization standard.  Story

Indian Linux PDA to arrive later this month -- The Hindu Business line (Bangalore, India) reports that InfoMart is scheduled to release Kaii, a Linux- and Java-based PDA running on a 160MHz Hitachi 215 MIPS processor, later this month. Targeting the vertical and enterprise markets, Infomart is planning what they call 'mass customization.' The Kaii PDA can come in color (16-bit) or monochrome, with a 3.5- or 3.8-inch 240 x 320 pixel display.  Story

New book: Creating Applications with Mozilla -- More than just a browser, Mozilla provides a framework that allows developers to create cross-platform applications by utilizing its accessible components. "Creating Applications with Mozilla" shows how innovative applications -- such as a text editor, chat client, or MP3 player -- can be created using a combination of easy-to-understand technologies and introduces and Mozilla's powerful cross-platform development framework.  Story
