Long-awaited Royal Linux PDA due this quarter -- After a false start and a delay, Royal appears ready at last to ship its Linux-based PDA. The "Linea LX" is now expected to arrive this quarter, priced at $399. The device will be based on a 200MHz Motorola i.MX1 DragonBall processor equipped with 64MB of SDRAM and 32MB of Flash memory, and will include Trolltech's Qtopia graphical framework and PIM suite.
German embedded Linux vendor claims European leadership -- Sysgo's ELinOS was selected as the top embedded Linux development system for 2003 by readers of the German magazine Elektronik in an annual reader survey. Sysgo claims that ELinOS is the "best selling" embedded Linux development environment in Europe.
Novell mulls embedded Linux -- Novell appears to be interested in rounding out its Linux portfolio by partnering with or acquiring an embedded Linux vendor. Novell Vice Chairman Chris Stone has reportedly said that Novell is going through a "thorough analysis" of embedded Linux, including real-time Linux for industrial applications. However, it's too early for the company to reveal specific details of its embedded Linux strategy, Novell officials say.

Linux developer survey examines standards, dev tools, debuggers -- Evans Data Corp has released the results of its 2004 Linux Developer Survey. Although not specific to embedded developers, the report includes fascinating observations about Linux developer preferences that likely apply to embedded development as well.
First nano-ITX mobo arrives -- VIA has launched its first motherboard featuring the tiny new nano-ITX form factor unveiled last September. The 4.7- x 4.7-inch Epia N-series Mainboard boasts a fanless, x86-compatible Eden-N processor, with expected clock rates in excess of 1GHz.
