Mizi Research announces new Linux PDA developer kit -- Mizi Research announced the near-term availability of a hardware/software developer kit for its Linu@ Embedded Linux distribution. The kit will cost $450, is expected to begin shipping by the end of this month, and will include a new Korean-manufactured PDA. Story
Embedded Linux powers new thin-client terminal -- Two Japanese firms have jointly developed "an advanced thin-client terminal" based on MontaVista Linux. The device is based on a 206 MHz Intel StrongARM processor equipped with 32MB of SDRAM and 16MB of Flash memory. It implements various Internet access protocols and supports Citrix ICA Protocols. Emsoft announces NanoGTK project -- NanoGTK, a port of GTK+ to Nano-X, is an open source project. The release consists of a complete environment for developing and running GTK+ applications in Nano-X on top of X Windows. Emsoft hopes that this release will result in the eventual building a vast library of GTK+ embedded applications. Story
Tiny uClinux SBC gains Bluetooth recognition -- HCV Wireless announced that their BlueMod Bluetooth single-board computer (SBC) has become the world's first formally qualified Bluetooth SBC, having been officially recognized by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. The tiny (2.75 x 2.1 in.) SBC runs uClinux on a 32-bit 50 MIPS CPU with 8MB SDRAM and 2MB Flash, and provides serial, GPIO, USB (device), and connection to external adapters via a processor expansion bus. Story
Linux powers first car with integrated UMTS services -- DaimlerChrysler recently demonstrated an S-class Mercedes equipped with Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) services, in Berlin. The demonstration was the product of a collaboration among six companies. Linux provided the in-vehicle system's embedded operating system, of course! Story

Linux and PC/104 drive wireless mobile communication platform -- National Scientific Corporation rolled out StarPilot, a location information server designed to seamlessly connect automobile drivers and passengers with the Internet and location-based technologies. StarPilot is a Linux-based embedded computer designed to be discretely installed in the trunk of a vehicle. The device can provide vehicle location information using cellular data networks to users anywhere in the world via the Internet, thus providing enhancements to personal safety as well as recovery support in the event of vehicle theft. GDB gains support for remote debugging of multithreaded programs -- As Linux becomes more popular with embedded system developers, it's becoming increasingly important for gdb to be able to do remote debugging of multithreaded programs in an embedded Linux target. As of gdb 5.2, gdb's "gdbserver" remote probe did not support this. At long last, this situation is improving. On 11 June 2002, Daniel Jacobowitz added support for remote debugging of multithreaded programs. Story
