Linux enables first robot-to-robot email exchange -- "Tuesday June 10, 2003 may well go down in history as the date when autonomous mobile robots first began exchanging email with each other over the Internet. It all began when software engineer Dennis Koch, sitting with a wireless laptop in a restaurant located in part of the building occupied by Smart Robots, maker of the Smart Robots SR4 Autonomous Mobile Robot, fired off an email to Smart4, one of two wireless SR4 robots in the test . . ."  Story

Transmeta forms Midori Linux partnership in China -- Chipmaker Transmeta Corp. announced that it has entered into an agreement with a Chinese company that will develop and market Transmeta's Midori Linux OS for mobile and embedded devices in China and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, including Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan. Transmeta said the move is part of its "aggressive push into the Chinese market and other key Asia-Pacific countries."  Story

Why are embedded projects late? -- Venture Development Corp. released an interesting "data snapshot" on the reasons why embedded projects run late. The data, illustrated in a chart, is based on a sample size of 400 respondents and indicates the ranking of eight reasons plus "other." Can you guess which reason is blamed most?  Story

Lineo uSolutions launches embedded Linux for consumer devices -- The Japanese decendent of Lineo Inc. announced a new embedded Linux product specifically aimed at consumer electronics applications, called uLinux Consumer Electronics Edition, which is said to feature small resource footprint, fast boot, power management, hard real-time performance, and enhanced memory management.  Story

Linux-based WLAN access point software released as GPL project -- A Finnish company announced the release of open source software that can be used to build Linux-based IEEE 802.11 based wireless access points. The company said its intent is to foster worldwide collaboration on an open source implementation of software the company has already used to build city-wide WLAN "hot zones" in Finland.  Story
