Linux powers U.S. Robotics router with NAS, VPN features -- U.S. Robotics unveiled a small Linux-based router with VPN (virtual private network) and NAS (network attached storage) capabilities at SuperComm 2003 this week. The device is the first member of a new family of secure storage/router products based on Intel's XScale network processors running embedded Linux. Using the CerfCube as an Embedded Linux Server -- This article from Linux Journal explains how to turn the tiny Intrinsyc CerfCube embedded development platform into an FTP and HTTP server, plus how to install "all the necessary modules for CGI development under Perl."  Story

Presentation about G.Mate's new Yopy 3500/3700 Linux PDAs -- G.Mate's new Yopy PDAs have reached production and orders are now being taken, we're told. This presentation about G.Mate's new Yopy 3500/3700 Linux PDAs includes information on specs, mechanical layout, and application software for the two new Linux PDAs. Don't get too excited about the CDMA jacket (shown in the presentation), because it's currently only available in Korea.  Story

Microwindows project releases version 0.90 -- The Microwindows project has released version 0.90 for public download. According to Greg Haerr, Microwindows project leader, there have been many additions, enhancements and bug fixes since last November's version 0.89 release.  Story

Newly released NXLIB runs X11 binaries without X11 -- Speaking of Microwindows, Greg Haerr also announced the first public release of the NXLIB Project, a companion project to Microwindows that allows X11 binaries to run unmodified using the Microwindows Nano-X server. "This is great news since we now can use a very full-featured small footprint widget set, as well as many already-built applications in the Microwindows environment," notes Haerr.  Story

5-day hands-on course on "Using Linux in Embedded Systems" -- Karim Yaghmour, author of "Building Embedded Linux Systems" (published by O'Reilly), has announced a 5-day hands-on course on how to build embedded Linux systems using only open source and free software packages, to be held July 7-11 in Montreal, Canada.  Story
