Free Linux reference design for PowerQUICC II -- Arabella Software announced a free Linux reference design for the Motorola PowerQUICC II microprocessor. The package supports Motorola's PQ2FADS-ZU evaluation board (and also the earlier 8260FADS boards). The Arabella Linux CD-ROM is included with Motorola's evaluation boards, and is also available directly from Arabella on request. Story
DirectFB project releases version 0.9.19 -- The DirectFB project has released a new version, which, according to the project, includes initial Radeon support plus many other improvements in performance and usability. DirectFB is a thin library, usable in embedded systems, that provides hardware graphics acceleration, input device handling and abstraction, integrated windowing system with support for translucent windows, and multiple display layers on top of the Linux Framebuffer Device. Atheros announces GPL driver for 802.11x chipsets -- Wireless chipset maker Atheros Communications announced the release of what it calls "the first open source Linux and FreeBSD software drivers" for 802.11b/g and universal 802.11a/b/g. The 802.11a/b/g Linux driver, which supports Atheros' wireless chipsets, is intended to serve as a building block for creating fully featured Linux-based 802.11b/g and 802.11a/b/g products such as network adapters, access points, and home gateways.
