Lineo's former Japanese subsidiary goes independent, retains "Lineo" brand -- "Lineo Japan, Inc." announced this week that it has been purchased in a management buyout and has changed its name to "Lineo uSolutions, Inc." The newly independent Japanese embedded Linux supplier said it plans to announce its own embedded Linux and cross-development environment products, including a product aimed at consumer electronics manufacturers, as early as March 2003. New tool provides VxWorks-like shell for embedded Linux -- The developer of VSH says it provides an environment similar to the VxWorks shell from Wind River, giving Embedded Linux developers an interactive shell that can be used to interact with kernel level modules and devices, as well as an agent which allows normal sh scripting to operate on memory in kernel space. Intrinsyc preps PowerPC version of tiny CerfCube reference platform -- Intrinsyc Software announced the development of a new version of its "CerfCube" reference platform that will be based on IBM's PowerPC 405EP embedded processor. The new platform will include 32MB of Flash and 32MB of SDRAM memory, 1-2 10/100 Mbit Ethernet ports, 2 serial ports, digital I/O, and a mini-PCI expansion connector. Read full story
