Motorola launches enterprise Linux smartphone in China -- Motorola has launched an embedded Linux powered A-76x-series smartphone in the China marketplace, with VPN capabilities and productivity software targeting enterprise customers. In addition to phone features, the A-768 offers a PDA, browser, MP3 music playback, full-motion video recording, speaker phone, finance utilities, and more. Like Motorola's first smartphone powered by embedded Linux, the A760, the new A768 provides voice navigation, intelligent handwriting input, and video recording capability. It also includes an HTML browser with zoom in and zoom out capability.

PC/CE convergence to foster $5.7B home networking market -- Developments in computing, consumer electronics, and networking are combining to lead to an explosive new market that will enable audio and video content to be transported around the home, reports In-Stat/MDR. The development of whole new product categories such as media adaptors and networked DVD players, in addition to the continued development of networking protocols and technologies such as Ethernet, 802.11x, and 1394, are leading to a new era in home networking. Though barriers, such as content protection, legacy products, and the need for consumer education remain, the value of networking connectivity in connected CE and PC devices will grow to nearly $5.7 billion by 2008.
ABI: Residential Gateway market to approach $900M by 2008 -- The market for networked home control devices is expected to reach $900M by 2008, when 20 million units will ship, according to market research key findings from ABI. As technology, connectivity, and automation permeate the home, appliance makers will build in networking capabilities, enabling their products to be controlled centrally from a "residential gateway."
