Euro Embedded Linux Expo to be held in Stockholm in March -- ACTIVE Exhibitions Europe has announced the next European Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC), which will be held in Stockholm this March. The event includes two days of workshops (Mar. 5, 7) plus a conference and exhibition on March 6 and is being held Arlanda Airport. Story

Free Standards Group releases two key Linux standards -- The Free Standards Group has released Linux Standard Base (LSB) 1.1 and Li18nux 1.0. LSB is intended to enable software applications to run on any compliant Linux-based operating system. The Linux Internationalization Initiative (Li18nux) creates a foundation for language globalization of compliant distributions and applications. Story

Joint revision to POSIX and the Single UNIX Specification announced -- The Open Group announced completion of the joint revision to POSIX and the Single UNIX Specification. The new standard is available for download. Story

Commercial apps support Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA -- TheKompany.com has announced a family of mini-applications for embedded Linux based mobile devices. The apps include a file manager, editor, chat client, and more, and currently support Sharp's Zaurus Linux PDA. Story

What's up with Agenda and the VR3 Linux PDA? -- The future of the Agenda Linux PDA is very much in doubt. Agenda's U.S. phone and fax numbers have been disconnected (with no forwarding number), but Agenda Germany reportedly still has VR3s available and says they are continuing the development of the product. Gnome to be based on .NET? -- The Register ran an article which reported Gnome leader Miguel de Icaza as saying that Microsoft's .NET has a lot to offer Linux's Gnome. Needless to say, a big debate ensued. Here are pointers to . . .

Report of a new Linux-based PDA -- made in India -- According to an article in the Bangalore Times, a company named Infomart has designed and developed a new PDA that runs Trolltech's Qtopia along with Opera's browser and Insignia's Jeode JVM (the same basic software stack as the new Sharp Zaurus). Story

uClibc version 0.9.9 is released -- uClibc maintainer Erik Andersen announced version 0.9.9 of uClibc, a small footprint C library for embedded Linux based systems. More applications can now be compiled using it, and the number of supported processor architectures has also been increased. Story

Everything you want to know about Journal File Systems in Linux -- An online article explains the implementation of all of the common journaling file systems available for Linux -- including Ext3, ReiserFS, XFS, and JFS. Story

Source code scanners for better code -- An online article from Linux Journal discusses the benefits of using source code scanners. They aren't a replacement for manual checks and edits, but tools like Flawfinder, RATS and ITS4 can point you in the right direction. Story
