MiniGUI embedded GUI/windowing project reports progress -- Last June, Bluepoint Linux Software announced that Yongming Wei, founder of the open source MiniGUI project, had joined the company's Beijing R&D center as its technology director. Since that time, BluePoint has continued its support of the MiniGUI project, and release 0.9 of MiniGUI is now available for download at the project's website. story

Koreans claim world's first Linux-enabled cellphone -- three Korean organizations announced completion of a joint development project which resulted in what is claimed to be "the world's first Embedded Linux smart phone." This story includes one of the only publicly available photos of the device. story

World's first "mobile" Linux cluster? -- Terra Soft Solutions has literally rolled out a "portable" PowerPC Linux cluster. Actually, at 150 pounds, it's not something you'd carry around with you. But a set of four heavy-duty wheels makes it at least as easy to move around as a well-stocked shopping cart. This story includes a picture of the unique device. story

Lineo and Transvirtual announce PocketLinux alliance -- Lineo and Transvirtual Technologies announced a global distribution agreement aimed to establish Lineo as the preferred embedded Linux vendor and distribution source of Transvirtual's Java and XML embedded Linux platform, PocketLinux. story

Embedded Linux development kit runs on MS Windows hosts -- Lineo began shipping its Embedix software development kit (SDK) for Windows, the software that allows Windows developers to develop embedded Linux solutions in their familiar Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 hosted environments. story

Hard Hat Linux enters Korean market -- MontaVista announced a strategic relationship whereby subscriptions and professional services for Hard Hat Linux will be available in Korea. story

HP names Linux luminary to senior post -- HP announced that longtime Linux evangelist and developer Bruce Perens has joined the company as a strategic advisor. While not specifically an embedded Linux news item, this story discusses HP's growing interest in Linux. story

AbsoluteX open source GUI toolkit available for download -- this new LGPL-released X-Window toolkit, developed by Epitera, is meant to support the process of developing customized Linux GUIs. story

It provides an extensive glossary of GUI (and related) terminology, detailed information about PIGUIs in general, and tables with a comparison of key features of most known GUI tookits. story
