IBM Fact sheet: summary of IBM solutions for Linux -- IBM published a "fact sheet" summarizing the company's many Linux projects and activities (both embedded and non-embedded) over the last several years. story Motorola Computer Group and Red Hat go for 5NINES -- Motorola will package and market Red Hat's Linux operating system with Motorola's Advanced High-Availability Software for Linux (HA-Linux) offering, which supports Motorola's carrier-grade high-availability embedded computing platforms. story BlueCat Linux 3.0 broadens support for embedded processors -- LynuxWorks announced new BlueCat features, along with expanded embedded microprocessor architecture support. story Development platform simplifies Embedded Linux apps -- Embedded Planet's "Linux Planet 1.2" development system contains much of what developers need, when designing embedded Linux systems around Motorola's MPC823e PowerPC processor. story Middleware connects Windows apps to Linux data servers -- Computer I/O Corporation announced Easy I/O DirectWare. The software provides a multi-node client/server communication framework that lets Microsoft Windows apps retrieve data from remote Linux-based servers. story Lineo to enable Windows-based embedded Linux cross-development -- Windows NT and Windows 2000 developers will soon have access to an integrated Embedix SDK and VMWARE tool kit that lets them work in their familiar Windows environment, while creating Linux software for embedded devices. story Red Hat's "un-Linux" OS (eCos) gains another convert -- Red Hat is "the Linux company," right? Think again. The company continues to promote eCos as a light weight and highly configurable alternative to Linux, for deeply embedded applications. story Lineo releases Embedix RealTime, adds trace tool -- Embedix RealTime is used for mission-critical applications requiring guaranteed response time in the telecom, military simulation, and industrial control markets. story New tools, board support, SMP, IDE added to Linux/RT -- TimeSys announced added features and tools for Linux/RT. Additions include: TimeTrace and TimeWiz real-time simulation tools, board support packages, SMP support, and the TimeWarp integrated development environment (IDE). story Motorola launches new Pentium-II EBX SBC with embedded Linux -- Motorola unveiled the MBX2000 -- a high-performance, low power, and compact SBC. It complies with the Ampro/Motorola EBX form-factor standard for embedded computer boards, and packs a lot of onboard I/O, including Ethernet and LCD/CRT display controller. story New Embedded Linux Developer Kit support PDAs -- Transvirtual Technologies announced the first Developer Release of PocketLinux, an open source application environment for PDAs and other mobile computing devices. story

New Linux support for MIL-STD-1750A embedded systems -- Cleanscape announced cross-development support for designers of military and aerospace systems using Linux. story
First stable release of PeeWeeLinux embedded Linux -- PeeWeeLinux is a small Linux distribution for embedded devices. The distribution attempts to make the configuration and installation of a Linux operating system on an embedded platform as painless as possible. story Transmeta flirting with AMD and 1GHz -- Here's an update about Transmeta, based on information obtained from the company's S1 filing and on interviews conducted by a pair of ZDNet editors. story New portal site for Linux in automation -- Linux-Automation.com aims to be a resource for engineers using Linux to solve "real live industrial problems". story OpenHardware releases Ethernet for open SBC design -- The tiny SIMM-sized 10BaseT Ethernet board is meant to go with the EZ328SIMM, a SIMM-sized single-board computer that contains a Motorola MC68EZ328 CPU and is supported uClinux. Design data is available for free download, although commercial use of the PCB GERBER files requires a license. story Embedded Linux Consortium elects officers -- The Embedded Linux Consortium announced the results of the first annual election of officers. And the winners are . . . story QNX Pentium III optimization achieves up to 33% gains -- QNX Software Systems announced the results of a project to optimize the QNX Neutrino RTOS for the Intel Pentium III. story Cirrus showcases Embedded Linux apps based on Maverick -- the company revealed some interesting new projects and design wins, including the futuristic IBM Internet appliance wrist watch prototype, S3's Diamond Rio Receiver, and PhatNoise's PhatBox car audio system.
