RTLinux patent knocks over first domino

Embedded Linux tutorials come to Texas
A pair of single-day vendor neutral tutorials -- on Embedded Linux Fundamentals, and Advanced Topics in Embedded Linux -- are designed for developers to quickly get up to speed on a number of critical concepts. The tutorials are scheduled for August 28 (Dallas, Fundamentals), and August 30 (Houston, Advanced).

New Bluetooth device gateway runs on uClinux
Wireless Networks announced that NetSilicon's uClinux-based NET+Works device networking platform is providing the connectivity for a new Bluetooth access point product. The device allows wireless devices to access local area networks by creating Bluetooth "hot spots" in public places such as airports and convention centers.

Lineo to make ucLinux-based music servers for MP3.com
MP3.com has selected Embedded Linux vendor Lineo to supply its next-generation Business Music Media Server (BMMS), which is used by stores for playing background music and advertising. The BMMS is based on Lineo's SecureEdge Internet appliance platform and runs uClinux.

Linux gets a boost in point-of-sale (POS) market
Point-of-sale (POS) system manufacturer Wincor Nixdorf announced plans to offer Linux as a platform for migrating DOS-based POS systems to full-function, next-generation POS solutions. The offering is part of Wincor Nixdorf's ongoing commitment to promote modern POS solutions based on an embedded Red Hat Linux software platform.

LynuxWorks cuts headcount 15 percent
LinuxDevices.com learned of a layoff at LynuxWorks and interviewed chairman Inder Singh for the scoop. This story also provides perspective on other layoffs and scuttled IPOs in the embedded Linux sector, and reports on a layoff at embedded software market leader Wind River as well. Lastly, through an interview with QNX co-founder Dan Dodge, we learn that QNX is still hiring and is profitable.

Linux to be enhanced for real-time video-on-demand
Concurrent Computer Corporation's Real-Time Division, a leading provider of real-time and Video-On-Demand products, announced an agreement with MontaVista Software to enhance and distribute MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux operating system in support of Concurrent's real-time application solutions.

Lineo launches 'anti-FUD' campaign with license ID tool
In response to recent attacks on Open Source Software from proprietary software vendors, Lineo has announced a new tool which is intended to assist developers in identifying the licenses within system software components. The tool is said to identify up to 40 different software licenses including GPL, LGPL, BSD, Artistic, and many others.
