Wind River board partners spin Intel-based embedded kits

Wind River announced a series of Wind River Linux-ready development kits developed in partnership with eight different embedded board vendors. Embedded Development Kits are now available from Emerson Network Power, Eurotech, and Kontron, with more kits due in the fourth quarter from Advantech, Adlink, Curtiss-Wright, GE Intelligent Platforms, and RadiSys, says Wind River.All the Embedded Development Kits presented through the new "Wind River On-Board Program" comprise processor boards with optimized 30-day trial versions of Wind River Linux or VxWorks operating systems, as well as related development tools, including hypervisor and graphics software, says Wind River.
Each kit includes a bootable USB flash drive "that immediately turns any host computer into a fully integrated development environment (IDE), with absolutely no installation required," says the company. A startup guide is also said to be available, with step-by-step tutorials.
The kits are optimized for developing, running, debugging, and prototyping embedded software for each board using Wind River Workbench. Kit-dependent options include trial versions of Wind River Hypervisor and Wind River Tilcon Graphics Suite, says the company.
Emerson Network Power's MATXM-CORE-411B
The following Embedded Development Kits, all of which incorporate boards with processors from Wind River's parent company, Intel Corp., are immediately available from Wind River's board vendor partners:
- Emerson MATXM-CORE-411-WR (which appears to be an update of the Intel Core i/3/i5/i7-based MATXM-CORE-411-B, shown above) for Wind River Linux, VxWorks, and Wind River Hypervisor
- Eurotech's Catalyst FX (pictured at right), plus the newer Pineview Atom-based Catalyst LP, the Catalyst Module XL, the ISIS boards, plus Helios and ISIS ICE platforms, for Wind River Linux and Tilcon Graphics Suite
- Kontron's Intel Atom Z5xx-based nanoETXexpress-SP, plus the uETXexpress-DC, uETXexpress-SP, VX3020, and VX3230 for Wind River Linux, VxWorks, and Tilcon Graphics Suite

Stated Paul Virgo, director of marketing for Embedded Computing at Emerson Network Power, "The MATXM-CORE-411-WR combines Emerson's first-to-market hardware based on the Intel Core i7 processor with Wind River's world-renowned real-time operating system to enable customers to quickly boot and evaluate a fully working development suite."
Availability
The Wind River-based Embedded Development Kits listed in the bulleted list above are immediately available from Emerson Network Power, Eurotech, and Kontron respectively. Pricing was not detailed. Similar kits from Advantech, Adlink, Curtiss-Wright, GE Intelligent Platforms, and RadiSys will be available in the fourth quarter, says Wind River.
Emerson, Eurotech, and Kontron will demonstrate their kits at the Intel Developer Forum, Sept. 13-15, in San Francisco at Wind River's booth #101.
