Sangoma announced Linux versions of its OEM-targeted VoIP media gateway cards, previously available only for Windows. The SIP-compliant "NetBorder Express Gateway" cards offer G.168 telco-grade echo cancellation and support PBX and conferencing servers, says the company.

Sangoma, which supports Linux with a number of its telephone network add-in cards, last year launched an open source developer community. Its telephony interface products are used in open source telephony projects including Asterisk, FreeSwitch, CallWeaver, and Yate, as well as in numerous proprietary SIP-based applications, says the company.

The previously Windows-only NetBorder Express Gateway cards are available in numerous densities and configurations, ranging from two-port analog cards to 960-port digital telephony systems, says Sangoma. The cards are aimed at application vendors and system integrators for PBXs, speech-enabled IVRs (interactive voice response systems), conferencing servers, contact centers, and trunking gateways. OEM partners are invited to integrate their own Linux-based SIP applications in communications servers that communicate directly with Sangoma's SIP gateways.

Single-port T1-E1 PCI-e version of NetBorder Express Gateway card

Available in both PCI and PCI Express versions, with either analog FXO and digital T1/E1 interfaces, the cards offer a field-upgradeable, "crashproof" firmware design, says the company. Features include DTMF decoding and tone recognition, voice quality enhancement, acoustic echo control, and adaptive noise reduction, Sangoma adds.

According to Sangoma, the NetBorder Express Gateway cards permit between four and 240 simultaneous calls per card, or up to 960 simultaneous calls when cards are combined. The cards also deliver "telco-grade" echo cancellation without reducing call capacity, claims Sangoma.

Features and specifications listed for the NetBorder Express Gateway cards include:
  • Analog FXO support for 4, 8, or 12 ports

  • T1 or E1 support for 1 to 8 ports

  • G.168-2002 echo cancellation, supporting 1024 taps/128ms tail per channel

  • Optimized per channel DMA streams and hardware-level HDLC handling

  • 32-bit bus master DMA data exchanges across PCI interface at 132Mbytes/sec, for minimum host processor intervention

  • Ring buffer DMA handling for minimum host intervention and guaranteed data integrity on high volume systems

  • 2U form factor of 4.7 x 2.2 inches (120 x 55mm)

  • RJ45 cables and short 2U mounting clips for installation in 2U rack-mount servers

  • 800 mA peak power; operational at 300 mA max at +3.3 V or 5 V

  • Operating temperature of 32 to 122 deg. F (0 to 50 deg. C)
Stated Kevin Moroz, COO of Pbxnsip, which is said to have recently released a set of PBX appliances based on the Linux version of NetBorder Express Gateway, "Releasing an affordable, simple-to-use, all-in-one PBX appliance that includes our SIP-based PBX software has been a long-time priority for our organization, because that's what our customers demand. NetBorder Express Gateway, with its compact form factor, wide support of telephony protocols and attractive price points was the obvious choice for our product line."

Availability

The Linux versions of various NetBorder Express Gateway products are available now, with undisclosed pricing. More information may be found here.
