Invitation-only Linux summit announces speakers

The Linux Foundation announced speakers for the Linux Foundation End User Summit, scheduled for Oct. 12-13, 2010 at the Hyatt Regency Jersey City, in New Jersey. The invitation-only event, which features keynotes from the Linux Foundation's Jim Zemlin and British Telecom Chief Scientist JP Rangaswami, brings together enterprise users and top Linux maintainers and developers.

Launched in 2008, the Linux Foundation End User Summit aims to bring together advanced enterprise users to collaborate with "leaders from within the Linux community, including the highest-level maintainers and developers," says the non-profit Linux Foundation (LF).

Companies from financial services, healthcare, energy, and government, among other industries, will be attending the event, says the Linux advocacy organization.

Like the annual Linux Foundation Collaboration Summit, held this year in April in San Francisco, the End User Summit is an invitation-only event. Last month, the LF also held its annual LinuxCon event, which is open to the public.

The Linux Foundation End User Summit will feature keynotes, technical conference sessions, and case studies sessions. The event also hosts so-called "Open Spaces Sessions" in which attendees can join in as an active part of the discussion on a particular topic, says the LF. Open Spaces topics include virtualization, HPC/multicore, file-systems, and tracing.

Major speakers and other highlights from this year's End User Summit program include:

Keynote from British Telecom Chief Scientist JP Rangaswami entitled "Purple haze to purple rain: Why the cloud rocks"
Bob Evans, vice president at NASDAQ OMX on what is working today with Linux and what would really work in his environment
Storage and file-system panel comprised of key Linux kernel developers including Ric Wheeler (Red Hat file-system architect), Christoph Hellwig (kernel developer), James Bottomley, pictured (kernel maintainer and distinguished engineer at Novell)
Technical case studies from CitiGroup, Morgan Stanley, and Intel, with the latter by Intel Senior Application Engineer Evgueny Khartchenko on "Latency spike Linux kernel performance analysis -- uncovering root causes"
Technical session with IBM’s cloud computing and open source expert Gerrit Huizenga on public and private clouds
Keynote from LF executive director Jim Zemlin (pictured) on how Linux is becoming the fabric for next-generation enterprise computing
