Korenix introduced an industrial computer with a wide operating range and a modicum of multimedia chops, thanks to Via's CX700M northbridge/southbridge. The DIN-rail-mountable JetBox 8150 runs fanlessly via a 1GHz Via Eden CPU, has CompactFlash and hard disk storage, provides two 10/100 Ethernet ports and two serial ports, and offers VGA output, the company says.

Korenix says its JetBox 8150 (right) is appropriate for a variety of industrial uses, and is designed to be mounted inside an equipment rack on a DIN rail. The company adds that the system includes some multimedia capabilities thanks to its use of Via's CX700M northbridge/southbridge. (Dating from 2006, this chip includes MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and WMV9 acceleration, plus "HDTV" support, though Via didn't say what resolutions and frame rates might be expected.)

The JetBox 8150 also uses a Via processor, the 1GHz Eden. This is backed by 1GB of DDR2 RAM, and persistent storage in the form of either a 2.5-inch hard disk drive or a Type II CompactFlash card, according to Korenix.

Operating fanlessly with the aid of its integral heat sinks, the JetBox 8150 has two 10/100 Ethernet ports, two serial ports (one RS232, one RS232/422/485), two USB 2.0 ports, and two audio connectors (mic/line in, and line/headphone out). The device also has a VGA port which, Korenix says, can utilize up to 128MB of shared system memory (the resulting resolutions are not stated).

According to Korenix, the JetBox 8150 has an operating range from 5 to 158 deg. F (-15 to 70 deg. C). Presumably when fitted with CompactFlash storage only, the device withstands shocks of up to 50G, the company adds.

The JetBox 8150 runs either Linux or Windows XP Embedded, Korenix says. An available Fedora 10 Linux distribution is said to omit office tools, fonts, and games, adding openVPN and openSWAN software while taking up only 2.7GB on a CompactFlash card.
