Core 2 Duo SBC offers Mini-PCI and Mini-PCIe expansion

Aaeon announced a 3.5-inch single board computer (SBC) with a Socket-P slot that can accept an Intel Core 2 Duo or Celeron M processor. The 5.75 x 4.0-inch GENE-9655 is further equipped with up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, Mini-PCI and Mini-PCIe expansion, as well as interfaces for gigabit Ethernet, serial, and USB 2.0, says the company.

The GENE-9655 is suitable for digital signage, panel PCs, kiosks, and surveillance, as well as general embedded applications, says Aaeon. The board's Socket P slot can support Intel Core 2 Duo processors such as a 2.2GHz T7500, and can also accommodate an Intel Celeron M processor, says Aaeon. Onboard Trusted Platform Module (TPM) for security applications is said to be optional.

The GENE-9655 supports up to 2GB of DDR2 533/667MHz memory in its one 200-pin SODIMM socket. The SBC is equipped with Intel's GME965 and ICH8M chipsets, driving simultaneous and dual-view displays in either CRT/LCD or DVI/LCD configurations. The Intel GME965 is said to share up to 384MB of system memory, with DVMT 4.0 support.

CRT resolution can reach 1920 x 1440 pixels, and LCD and DVI resolution can go as high as 1920 x 1200, says Aaeon. The LCD interface, meanwhile, is said to support up to 24-bit dual-channel LVDS.

The GENE-9655 comes standard with a DVI-I connector, but a separate version offers a 15-pin CRT connector instead. Two-channel audio is also said to be supported.

The GENE-9655 is equipped with two gigabit Ethernet ports, says the company. The board also offers support for six USB 2.0 ports, with two of them offered as real-world ports on its coastline.

Headers for three RS-232 ports are provided, as well as one switchable RS-232/422/485 port on the coastline. Other I/O is said to include PS/2 keyboard, PS/2 mouse, and an 8-bit programmable Digital I/O interface.

The GENE-9655 offers a SATA II connector and a Type II CompactFlash socket for storage, says the company. Peripheral expansion, meanwhile, is said to be supported with both a Mini-PCI interface and a PCI Mini Card interface that can support 3G modules.

Measuring 5.75 x 4.0 inches (146 x 101.6mm), the board runs on a 12 Volt power supply, and offers typical power consumption with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 clocked to 2.2GHz. Operating temperature is said to range from 32 to 140 deg. F (0 to 60 deg. C).

Aaeon did not provide pricing or availability information on the GENE-9655, which is offered with Linux and Windows XP drivers. More information, including a datasheet, may be found here.
